| These battery maintenance tips help you to save money and keep your workplace safer… Recent studies have revealed that you can extend the life of a 24 cell, 48-volt battery and save as much as $1,200 simply by correctly maintaining your forklift’s electrolyte levels. Because batteries cost between $3,000 to $7,000, it pays to maintain them correctly. Here’s how… Wet cell batteries (powered by complex chemical reactions) are a convenient power source for most plant, including forklifts. Battery life can be extended by regular recharging, provided that electrolyte levels are correctly maintained. Overfilling causes corrosive sulphuric acid to leak out and destroy the battery housing. (Recently we repaired a hole in a three-millimetre-thick plate steel floor because it was no match for electrolyte fluid leaks.) Alternatively, it is dangerous to under-fill electrolyte levels, because if sulphuric acid is under-diluted it destroys battery cells prematurely. However, topping up levels accurately can be difficult - especially in poorly-lit factories, or if your operators are forgetful. The EASIER way to top up levels… The gravity-fed Watermaster watering system takes the guesswork out of topping up fluid levels. Simply connect the batteries to the water reservoir with quick-hitch solenoids and the levels are topped up automatically following charging. It’s quick! It’s easy! Batteries don’t even have to be removed from their vehicles. This means that all of your batteries can be filled within 10 - 15 minutes, with minimal operator involvement, regardless of whether your batteries are 24 volt, 36volt, 48volt, or 72volt. Don’t do it the hard way any longer…
