| A quick pre-drive check keeps Murphy at bay Whether you’re an employer or a forklift operator, we recommend you have (and follow) a strict safety policy. This would include never letting an unlicensed person operate the forklift, as the day would inevitably come when there would be trouble. If you’re an employer, you’re responsible for making sure that all forklifts used in your workplace comply with current regulations. If you’re an operator, it’s in your interest to check that the forklift is in good working condition before starting each shift. Establish a simple routine and check the following items daily:
Read the manual to find out when regular checks are due. Good maintenance means fewer breakdowns, and the machine -- and its driver -- will last longer, too. Prevention is better than cure.
