| How to avoid getting weighed down by inaccurate measurements Weighing your loads accurately right at the point of pick up is a great way to cut down on wasted time. You can more easily complete or amend consignment notes and eliminate double handling. Plus, you reduce the chances of getting hefty fines because of truck overloading. There's two on-the-fork weighing options available: The SCALE or GAUGE. SCALES are the most accurate and are essential if you need very precise measuring where greater than 1% accuracy is required. Colonial Weighing Australia produce a device called the Ultimate Forklift Scale. It is fully electronic and provides accuracy to 0.1%. This means that on a load weighting 1,000 kgs the scale will always be accurate (+/-) 1%. This accuracy does not come cheap though. For a more cost effective option you may want to consider a gauge-type device... GAUGES cost less but are correspondingly less accurate. They are fine for applications which require an estimate of weight to (+/-) 1%. An example of quality gauge device is the Weight Mate. This is a hydraulic-analogue gauge which suites most forklifts. It is capable of measuring weights of up to 50,000kg at (-/-) 1% accuracy. When deciding on which type of weighting device to buy there are many considerations to take into account. In addition all such devices must be fully certified to government regulations. Active Forklifts can arrange to have Gauge and Scale type devices fitted to your forklift, and will also happily point you towards a Government Licensed Certifier.
